For the 5th and final pentathlon of the semester, I decided to watch Verdi's Requiem: The Met Remembers 9/11, through the Met Opera on Demand Student Access service.
This performance marked the Metropolitan Opera's return after their doors had been closed for 18 months due to Covid.
This show was also performed on September 11th, 2021, the 20 year anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. This definitely added an extra layer of meaning to the performance - visualizing these attacks while listening to the music and really making the connection is what made this performance more powerful than a random classical music performance.
I feel like this relates to our capstones in the way that adding meaning to our work can make it more engaging for viewers. You could see many great paintings for example, but if a painting has a connection or deeper meaning, it makes it far more interesting.
