Pentathlon 3 Semester 4 - Jeen-Yuhs

For my third pentathlon, I decided to watch the first episode of "Jeen-Yuhs: A Kanye Trilogy," on Netflix.

This is a documentary trilogy on the life of rapper Kanye West, where you get an inside look into his creative process from footage recorded over 20 years of his career.

One interesting aspect of the documentary was the footage itself. The cameraman, Coodie, decided that he wanted to document the life of a young producer. He had the dedication to stick with Kanye and spend his time filming his life. All of the behind the scenes moments - the little moments - were really interesting to see and gave more context to the artistic struggle that a young musician faces when trying to create.

Kanye was largely known as a producer at the time, however, he really wanted a career as a rapper. His rapping was not really taken seriously at the time by labels and others in the music industry.

This documentary showed the work that it takes to succeed in a career in the arts.

This idea of the creative process really connects to what we are doing in Arts Scholars and with our Capstone projects.
