For my third pentathlon event, I went to Copeland's Appalachian Spring performed by the UMD String Orchestra. This event was on October 8, 2021 at 8pm.
This was one of the first performances at the Clarice after not being able to perform for nearly a year and a half. The image of live music is still a novelty and seeing a packed performing arts center was a very foreign sight.
At its core music brings people together. Seeing how art has brought all these people together not just physically, but mentally, enjoying the performance.
Personally, it had been a long time since I'd seen a classical music performance, and I remember not really appreciating it too much when I was a lot younger. Maybe revisiting my opinions have changed and I can enjoy classical music much more now, but I think it could also be my appreciation for live music of any kind returning.
Going to this event really changed my appreciation for the power that art has to bring people together. Every person was just sitting with full attention, enjoying the concert.
